"Design" is often associated with superficial variations of items such as cars or citrus presses. However, the original meaning of "design" is "shaping". In direct contrast to mere decoration, design thus stands for the creative invention of the object itself within the collaborative shaping of an original environment, and the integration of the object into an artistic storyline. The exhibition "global tools" operates within this basic premise. Its initial approach has been to highlight the basic ideas and the cultural assumptions of today’s design technology. The results have contributed to the concept of total design, which has been put into effect by various deisgners, stage designers and architects..
