lower austria - design 2002-2004 This project is a reconstruction of a typical Austrian country residence from the 1980s. The building is situated on a slope in a small village surrounded by vineyards. The project seeks to clarify the structure of the building according to the site's qualities. The hipped roof and most of the partitioning walls are removed. The floor levels are adapted to reflect the natural incline of the site. Some solid elements of the building are preserved and integrated into the new structure. A new glass layer has been put on the building like a ‘second skin’. A second layer with perforated sunshades creates an intermediate area. An out door private space is created and at the same time determines the building’s appearance and works as a perceptual filter. It also improves the living quality from the inside, providing a large degree of privacy. The living space is very open and individual spaces are reduced to a minimum. Most of the materials have raw surfaces relating to the countryside and the surrounding natural environment. Mirrors and artificial lights generate an additional "light skin" for the whole building at night. In doing so, the intermediate space around the building is integrated into the living area at night. | ||
