new office, sabag baumanagement ges.m.b.h.
salzburg, austria - design 2002-2003

Due to its recent expansion, Sabag, a project management firm in Salzburg, has decided to change its office location. The firm acts as a link between property owners, building planners and contractors. Sabag’s new office is located in a technology park, the Techno z in Salzburg, and covers an area of 570 m˛, housing 19 workstations and a number of areas designated for meetings. The office system is based on the conventional single cell office with a communication zone and some additional meeting areas.
The central section has been created as a transparent communications zone, which is accessible to visitors. A variety of supporting office functions, following in the tradition of the “combi office”, gather around a central furniture feature created out of a series of stacked units. The waiting area and reception are situated at the head of this furniture piece. A multimedia area with a CAD workstation and advanced facilities for graphic design and printing is located close to the recreation zone for employees. A small kitchen and a coffee bar are positioned towards the central corridor; this is a semi-public zone for visitors and also functions as the entrance to the meeting areas.
These meeting areas are transparent boxes. Therefore the central areas receive enough daylight and a feeling of openess is conveyed throughout. Artwork on the glass panels provides an element of privacy and also serves as a communication media. One single very strong color is used in this semi-public area; the colour conveys something of Sabag’s corporate identity and projects a dynamic and modern firm. The offices will be painted in individual light colors according to the daylight situation and the users’ wishes. The overall appearance of the central area is that of a tranquil and exquisite link between the various office areas and suggests a larger office structure than is actually available. A high ceiling fitted with specifically placed spotlights supports this concept of spatial intervention. Several supporting furnishing features, such as the waiting area chairs and the table, were specially designed for this location. A distinctive daylight steering and daylight support system was also developed for the individual offices.
